The road to recovery

Ray's story
Ray, 73
I would still use this program even if there were no rewards, but they add a bit of motivation and make it worthwhile sticking with it. If you are thinking about trying Perx and manage a chronic condition – what are you waiting for, it can only help!

Two years ago Ray felt fit and healthy. Then he was diagnosed with a pituitary tumor, hormonal imbalances & multiple pulmonary embolisms in both lungs. This meant multiple hospitalizations and a complicated road to recovery. In Ray’s own words he “had forgotten what normal feels like” and hoped to try and recover to his previous level of health and wellbeing.

Ray’s health insurer, HCF (Australia’s largest not-for-profit health fund) emailed him to let him know he was eligible for Perx in November 2019 so he decided to give it a go. Prior to using Perx, Ray had been managing over 11 medications and supplements, with different dosages at different times using a combination of spreadsheets and phone alarms, as well as trying to co-ordinate the rest of his treatment plan. The road back to “normal” looked long, winding and complicated!

Since joining the HCF Perx Program, Ray hasn’t looked back. He is one of our most consistent members in the Perx community, using Perx quite literally every day. Almost a year later he is currently sitting on a 305-day streak – that’s over 300 days in-a-row of completing every aspect of his treatment plan! The Perx program is easy and convenient and makes sure he takes the right dose at the right time.

Not only has Ray earned an impressive streak during his membership to Perx but he’s also earned hundreds of dollars in rewards from Coles, Woolworths and Rebel Sport to motivate him on his road to recovery.

A stroke of inspiration

Priya’s story
Priya, 27
I never had to take medication before the stroke, so of course I used to forget at times. Perx has been great in keeping me in check and the rewards that you can win are a wonderful motivation. Without Perx, I wouldn’t remember to take my medication half the time!

This is Priya. Priya has been an early and enthusiastic adopter of Perx and she’s also one of the most inspirational people we’ve met through this journey. Three years ago, she was living her life like any other 24-year-old, pursuing her passions of photography, health and fitness.

In July 2015, after a week of feeling ill, she was admitted to the hospital and then to the ICU after having multiple seizures. She had experienced a stroke and hemorrhage caused by multiple blood clots in her brain. Over the next three weeks they found further blood clots in her legs and lungs. Fortunate to have some great doctors, nurses and neurosurgeons, Priya’s fitness and fighting spirit saw her survive.

After spending 5 weeks in the hospital she was discharged with a fierce determination to get her life back. In a recovery full of ups and down she’s chosen to focus on the positive. In July last year, she was given clearance by her doctor to get back in the gym and ever since has embodied her daily mantra of ‘Wake Up. Kick Ass. Repeat’. She has since run over 200km in a month and raised almost $1400 for the Stroke Foundation.

Since she started using the Perx app, Priya has continued to take control of her health. Her adherence rate is 98% which is truly exceptional! She’s been rewarded with numerous movie tickets, fuel vouchers and donations to charity. Congratulations Priya – you’re an inspiration to us all and we’re very proud to have you as part of the Perx family. Keep on kicking ass!

A carer's perspective

Please give it a go! The management of his condition has gotten so much easier thanks to Perx!

Great app to help you manage your health. I started using Perx three weeks ago, to help me as a mother remember all medication and treatments for my son, but also to help encourage my son to do his treatments and take his medication (can’t argue with an app).

It takes a bit to set it all up but once you’ve entered everything, you’re all set! The rewards are tangible ($ value gift cards with selected providers like Coles, Kmart etc which is good for me) and my son loves playing the games and spinning the lucky wheel at the end of the day.

If you are hesitant like I was because it looks like an app for adults only, please give it a go! The management of his disease has gotten so much easier thanks to Perx! The support team is amazing too, you talk to real people and nothing is too much for them!

Highly recommend this app!

A daughter’s perspective

Anne’s story
Anne, 55
Since using Perx, Mom hasn’t forgotten her medication and she has been able to manage her pain and get on with life. It gives me peace of mind knowing that she is taking her medication regularly.

Anne, one of our earliest Perx adopters, was diagnosed with a benign brainstem tumor 9 years ago requiring an urgent and complex operation. Following the procedure Anne had to spend several years in rehabilitation and was given a long-term prescription for daily medication. Emily, Anne’s daughter, has kindly shared her mother’s story with us, and it’s clear the impact of chronic conditions doesn’t just stop with the individual’s physical symptoms. Like many who have loved ones with chronic conditions, Emily regularly worries about whether her mother is successfully managing the daily complexities of her condition. In Anne’s case, simply forgetting one of her two daily dosages will result in debilitating nerve pain. Having to watch her mother struggle through the hardships of painful side effects post brain surgery, Emily has noticed a vast improvement since Anne started using Perx.

Anne has achieved an amazing 84% adherence rate to her medication over the last two months, allowing her to better manage her pain and put more energy into day to day activities. Emily gets the peace of mind that her Mom is managing her condition and getting rewarded for doing so!
